Celebrating the Holidays in Key West, Florida

Are you thinking of buying a home in Key West and wondering what the holidays will be like down here? Most people think that spending the holidays in Key West means giving up all those Christmas traditions we know and love. This is very much NOT the case. Key West has become one of the most festive holiday towns you’ll find- minus the snow!

Kick-off the holiday season with the Key West “Bight” Before Christmas. This happens annually the Wednesday evening before Thanksgiving with the lighting of the Key West “Harbor Walk of Lights”. The main features include the 20’ Fishing Buoy Tree, a 16’ Nautical Christmas Tree and the original Key West Lobster Trap Tree. Start your stroll at the Harbor Walk plaza located on the corner of Greene and Elizabeth Street.

Next up is the Key West Hometown Holiday Parade, happening on the first or second Saturday of December. This is by far one of the largest parades in Key West and will sure to delight all ages. Make sure to bring a bag to collect all the candy the floats hand out!

If you’re a pet owner or just a pet lover head down to the Key West Bight Marina in the Historic Seaport district and get your pet’s picture taken with Santa. All proceeds benefit the local Boys and Girls Club. Pet pictures with Santa more info.

Make sure to stock up on battery-powered lights and decorations to adorn your bike – a.k.a conch cruiser- for the annual Lighted Bike Parade benefiting Wesley House Family Services. This family-friendly tradition gathers toys/donations for the Holiday Helpers Store, where eligible parents can walk through the store and choose toys for their children.  Ride in the parade through the neighborhoods or just come to see all the decorated bicycles.
